Safeguarding Code in Martial Arts
Supported by recognised safeguarding standards.
The Safeguarding Code in Martial Arts helps parents and carers identify martial arts clubs suitable for children or adults in their care. Nishikan maintains safeguarding practices in line with the standards expected through the scheme.

Are your instructors DBS checked?
Yes. All Nishikan instructors are DBS checked as part of our safeguarding standards.
Is there a fixed ratio of instructors to students?
We don't publish a single fixed ratio, since class sizes and instructor numbers can vary by venue and programme. If this matters to you for a specific class, ask your venue directly or speak with Marie, our Designated Safeguarding Lead.
Can I stay and watch my child's class?
Yes, parents and guardians are generally welcome to stay and watch. Arrangements can vary a little by venue, so it's worth checking directly, especially for a first session.
How do I raise a safeguarding concern?
Contact Marie Goorun, our Designated Safeguarding Lead, directly by email or phone. If you would prefer to speak to someone outside the club, you can use the independent BMABA CIC safeguarding route instead.
Where can I read your full safeguarding policy?
Our full safeguarding policies are available to students and parents through the Martialytics app and portal.
Is Nishikan recognised under any safeguarding standard?
Yes. Nishikan maintains safeguarding practices in line with the Safeguarding Code in Martial Arts, and is a registered member of BMABA CIC.
What is BMABA CIC?
BMABA CIC is an independent body that offers a safeguarding contact route outside of individual clubs, for anyone who would prefer not to raise a concern directly with Nishikan.
